Frequently Asked Questions

How does the colour and texture appear in person?

The appearance of colour and texture in tiles can vary slightly when viewed in person compared to images seen online. This is due to differences in screen settings and lighting conditions. Although we do our best to photograph our tiles with a high level of colour accuracy, variations can occur. For texture, tiles may have a tactile feel that isn't fully captured in photos. They can range from smooth and glossy to rough and matte.

The colour, shade, size and texture of tiles can vary from batch to batch. If you are placing an additional order to match with existing tiles purchased from Future Tile, please contact sales@futuretile.com.au to make sure the batch is the same.

Is this tile suitable for floor/wall use?

Most of the tiles available in our range are suitable for both floor and wall applications, offering versatility and consistency in design for various spaces. However, there are certain tiles specifically designed for wall use only. These "wall-only" tiles are crafted to be thinner compared to those that are suitable for both floor and wall applications. Due to their thinner construction, they are not built to withstand the same level of force or foot traffic that floor tiles can endure.

When browsing our selection, you can easily identify if a tile is meant exclusively for wall use. This information will be clearly stated in the product's title or description. It's important to consider this distinction to ensure that the tiles you select are appropriate for their intended use, whether it be for flooring that requires durability or for wall applications where thinner tiles may be more suitable for aesthetic purposes.

Is this tile suitable for outdoor use?

The suitability of a tile for outdoor use depends on its texture and finish, as detailed in our product descriptions. Here's what to look for:

Indoor-Only Tiles: Some tiles in our collection are designed exclusively for indoor use. These tiles tend to have a smoother finish, which might be slippery and less durable under outdoor conditions.

Outdoor-Specific Tiles: We offer tiles specifically crafted for outdoor settings. These outdoor tiles typically have a rougher or more textured surface to provide better traction, especially when wet. This makes them ideal for areas where safety and slip-resistance are key, such as patios or outdoor walkways.

Indoor/Outdoor Tiles: There are also versatile tiles in our range, known as In/Out tiles. These tiles are fairly smooth when dry, making them suitable for indoor use. However, they are engineered to become grippier when wet, ensuring safe outdoor use as well. These tiles are perfect for areas that bridge indoor and outdoor spaces, like sunrooms or covered patios.

For each tile product, we clearly list the application and the finish in the product description. This information is crucial to determine whether a tile is suitable for outdoor use, indoor use, or both. By checking these details, you can ensure that you choose a tile that meets your specific needs and safety requirements for your outdoor space.

How many tiles will I need for my project?

Calculating the number of tiles you need for your project is a straightforward process:

Measure Your Room: First, determine the length and width of the room where you plan to install the tiles. Multiply these two measurements to find the total area of your room in square feet or square metres. This gives you the area that needs to be tiled.

Use Our Online Calculator: Once you have the area measurement simply input the area into the "required area" field in our tile calculator. The calculator will automatically figure out how many boxes of tiles you'll need for your project based on the size of the tile you are interested in.

Consider Extra Tiles for Wastage: We recommend adding an extra 15% to your total tile order. This additional amount accounts for wastage during installation – like tiles that are cut to fit around corners and edges. It's also wise to keep some spare tiles for future use, in case any tiles break or need replacing down the line.

By following these steps, you can ensure that you order the right quantity of tiles for your project, along with a sensible amount of extra tiles for any unforeseen needs.

What is the best way to install these tiles?

While we're experts in selling tiles, laying them down is a different story. That's why it's a smart move to get a pro tile installer. But, here are some straightforward tips to keep in mind if you're going down the DIY route or just want to know what to expect:

Get the Surface Ready: First off, the area where you're putting the tiles should be clean, flat, and dry. If it's bumpy or wet, you might end up with tiles that don't stick right or are uneven.

Choosing the Right Glue: Different tiles need different kinds of glue. A good installer knows exactly what to use for each type of tile.

Measuring and Laying Out: Before you start sticking tiles down, measure everything and plan where each tile will go. This helps cut down on waste and makes sure everything looks neat in the end.

Leave Some Wiggle Room: When you're putting down the tiles, leave a tiny bit of space between them and around the edges of the room. This is for when the tiles expand a bit (which they do sometimes), so they don't end up cracking.

Grouting Right: Grout is the product that goes between the tiles. Make sure you use the right kind and apply it evenly. This fills up the gaps and helps keep everything in place, plus it makes the job look finished.

Taking Care of the Tiles After: Once the tiles are in, you've got to keep them clean and, depending on the type (for example if they're stone), you might need to seal them every now and then.

Remember, these are just basic tips. For the best results, a professional installer will give you the lowdown on what's best for your specific tiles and space. They'll make sure your tiles are put in right and last a long time.

Are these tiles in stock and how long will delivery take?

To check the current stock level of a particular tile you can check the stock indicator on this page above. This is regularly updated with information from our Brisbane warehouse, ensuring you have the most recent stock status. If a tile is showing “out of stock” please contact us via email or phone and we can let you know the estimated availability date.

For those looking to pick up their tiles, please note that it will take 4 days from when you place your order for us to prepare it. This preparation involves picking and packing the tiles at our warehouse, and unfortunately, we are unable to expedite this process.

Additionally, we offer shipping options, which you can view and select in the cart. The delivery time for shipping will vary based on your location and the shipping option you choose, providing flexibility to suit your schedule.

Do these tiles have a warranty?

Yes, these tiles come with a 10-year warranty that covers manufacturing defects. This means if there's an issue with the tiles due to how they were made, you're protected for a decade from your purchase date. However, it's important to note that this warranty does not cover issues arising from improper installation. If the tiles are not installed correctly, the warranty becomes void. Therefore, we always recommend that installation be carried out by a professional to ensure it meets the necessary standards and to maintain the validity of your warranty.
